THATCH HOUSE REBUILD
The 2019 India team spent one week working on two emergency housing projects in Palangi village. One of the projects was to construct a home for a refugee family in the hills above Little Lilies Creche.
A community of refugee families lives in the hills above Little Lilies Creche.
The parents work as crop pickers and labourers and many of the children attend Little Lilies.
Family home before renovation in April 2019. Fifteen years after it was first built, this house is barely standing as the family lives in dire conditions. The plastic tarp is not enough to withstand the torrential monsoon rains on the exposed hillside.
Notice the chimney - this creche family has a smokeless cookstove which has stood the test of time in the old house and will take pride of place in the new home.
The India team begins work on the site. It takes two days to clear the site before construction starts. A promising new beginning for a creche child and his family.
